Chapter 28
âIs it true that youâre dating Tori?â someone shouted at Chloe from across homeroom.
Chloe rolled her eyes, focusing on her textbook.
âWhatâs it like knowing your girlfriend tried to force a straight girl to have sex with her in the locker room?â
Chloe growled under her breath but continued to ignore him as well as tune out the stifled giggles from others in the room. She wasnât in the mood to add fuel to the fire or contribute to high school politics; she had more important things to worry about. Chloe just hoped that they would find a new subject to obsess over soon and forget about Toriâs and Chloeâs relationship.
Hopefully, that time came quickly, though, because her patience was already wearing thin.
âJesus Christ, David, would you leave her the hell alone?â Mark bellowed, standing up.
âYes, that will be quite enough,â the teacher chimed in. âEveryone, please stay quiet until the bell rings.â
Mark sat down next to Chloe. âYou okay?â
Chloe sighed. âYeah,â she whispered. âJust annoyed, obviously.â
âObviously.â He shuffled in his seat. âIâm sorry that youâre getting caught in the middle of this.â
She shrugged. âWhat theyâre saying she did isnât true at all.â
âI figured as much. Iâm just sorry that youâre being tormented because of her.â
She looked over at Mark. âSheâs worth it.â
Mark frowned. âI sure hope so.â

âMr. Thompson?â Chloe called as she approached his desk after class.
âYes, Chloe, whatâs up?â he asked.
She paused until the rest of the students were gone. âI wanted to know if I could have an extra copy of the homework so I can give it to Tori.â
Mr. Thompson nodded, frowning, as he retrieved another packet from his desk drawer. âIs she okay?â
Chloe nodded. âSheâs fine,â she replied simply. âI just donât want her to get behind this week.â
âUnderstood.â He paused. âAre you okay?â
Chloe gasped, surprised that a teacher broached the subject. So far, Toriâs other teachers had remained silent about Toriâs personal life and given her the assignments without comment. âUm, yeah, I guess.â
âIâm sorry for saying anything,â he whispered. âWe arenât supposed to interfere with any studentsâ personal lives. Itâs justâ¦I know that, sometimes, rumors can get out of hand, to the point that people may forget how much they may hurt someone indirectly involved with said gossip.â
A tear rolled down Chloeâs cheek, and she quickly wiped it away. âIâm just trying to keep it together and ignore the comments; I have enough to worry about.â
Mr. Thompson frowned. âWell, I hope that things get better for you both soon.â
Chloe smiled weakly. âThank you, Mr. Thompson.â
âOf course,â he replied.

âHoney, Iâm home!â Chloe called as she walked in the door after school.
Tori sprung from the couch and rushed over to the hallway, wrapping her arms around Chloe. âHi, baby!â
Chloe embraced her and held on for several minutes. Toriâs hair was still damp from taking a shower, and she breathed in the fruity scent of the shampoo. âIâm so glad to be home,â she groaned with a sigh.
Tori frowned. âDid they bother you today?â
âA little during homeroom,â she replied.
